Review:The baptism of the Holy Spirit (Only to be entrusted from Buddha to Buddha)
A spectre is haunting around the world — the spectre of Neo-Isolationism.
Put down! Let the one who does wrong continue to do wrong; let the vile person continue to be vile; let the one who does right continue to do right; and let the holy person continue to be holy.
The spectre of Neo-Isolationism
At the end of World War II and the establishment of the United Nations, people were delighted at the age of peace finally arrived. However, it was only a short-lived triumph. The world entered the cold war of the United States and the Soviet Union and regional conflicts broke out continuously in many parts of the world, such as the Middle East, Korea and Vietnam. Following the internationalization of the world economy, the difference shrank between the socialism and the capitalism. As the result, the Berlin Wall came down and the Cold War era ended. However, now, another spectre called Neo-Isolationism is haunting again around the world.
In addition, since even North Korea has gone so far as to develop nuclear weapons following India, Pakistan and Israel, the nuclear weapons oligopoly by the UN permanent member countries has already collapsed. And even as in the only bombed nation Japan, which has a war-renouncing peace constitution, the possibility to develop nuclear weapons is discussed by some people, humankind is faced with the alternative of performing on the tightrope walking to avoided the ruin depending on uncertain mutual deterrent effect among many nuclear weapon states or building
a system to prohibit the possession of nuclear weapons for all states.
Realization of Kingdom of God
The Book of Revelation implies that the kingdom of God would not be realized so easily. The book also suggests that even if the Kingdom appears, the evil spirits will be unleashed again after a thousand years, and once again this world will transform to the inferno. However, it encourages us, ultimately, the permanent Kingdom of God will be realized and one, who believes this new revelation and keeps the correct faith, will be resurrected with eternal life at the last day, even if he is martyred. Therefore, "Let the one who does wrong continue to do wrong; let the vile person continue to be vile; let the one who does right continue to do right; and let the holy person continue to be holy. Look, I am coming soon! My reward is with me, and I will give to each person according to what they have done. I am the Alpha and the Omega, the First and the Last, the Beginning and the End." (Revelation 22:11-13)
How then can we be baptized with the Holy Spirit and keep the correct faith to overcome this turbulent era?
What is "Baptism with The Holy Spirit"?
Jesus, who had shared the Last Supper with his Apostles at the second floor of meeting place of the Essenes, next to the house of Caiaphas, the High Priest, and had sent Judas Iscariot as a messenger to tell the high priest his final decision on the Crucifixion, told the rest of the disciples as follows: "Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid." (John 14:27)
The words, 'I do not give to you as the world gives' provide the key to solve the question "what is 'baptizing with the Holy Spirit'?"
Peace of Jesus
Then, how does he give it to us? Jesus in The Gospel of John preaches as follows: "When he, The Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you into all truth. He will bring glory to me by taking from what is mine and making it known to you. All that belongs to the Father is mine. That is why I said The Spirit will take from what is mine and make it known to you." (John 16:13-15) Because, "In the beginning was the Word (Logos)." (John 1:1) All things had been condensed into the Logos and Father and Son had been also one at the immemorial.
The original text of Q Source that the author of The Gospel of John referred to here should be the following description of verse 88 of The Gospel of Thomas.
Jesus said, "The messengers and the prophets will come to you and give you what belongs to you. You, in turn, give them what you have, and say to yourselves, 'When will they come and take what belongs to them?'" (Thomas 88)
That is to say, what the Spirit of truth will give to us has belonged to us from the beginning. Therefore when we are baptized also depends on ourselves, or when we are prepared. In other words, when we have discovered that we have been one with God from the beginning, we will be baptized with the Holy Spirit.
The Gospel of John also states that: Jesus would not entrust himself to them, for he knew all men. He did not need man's testimony about man, for he knew what was in a man. (John 2:24-25)
To sum it up, though a man of flesh and blood is covered with sins and blind passions, he has had the Holy Spirit since the creation of the world. Jesus knew it without man's testimony. Thus he did not need to entrust his Holy Spirit to men.
Jesus also said, "And you also must testify, for you have been with me from the beginning (of the world)." (John 15:27)
Honestly discarding expedient means, will preach only the unsurpassed way.
After The Last Supper, on the way toward an olive grove, Jesus told his disciples: "But I tell you the truth: It is for your good that I am going away. Unless I go away, the Counselor will not come to you; but if I go, I will send him to you. (John 16:7) In that day you will no longer ask me anything. I tell you the truth, my Father will give you whatever you ask in my name. Until now you have not asked for anything in my name. Ask and you will receive, and your joy will be complete. Though I have been speaking figuratively, a time is coming when I will no longer use this kind of language but will tell you plainly about my Father. In that day you will ask in my name. I am not saying that I will ask the Father on your behalf. No, the Father himself loves you because you have loved me and have believed that I came from God. I came from the Father and entered the world; now I am leaving the world and going back to the Father." (John 16:23-28)
It means that one, who has been baptized with the Holy Spirit, can directly speak to God in the name of Jesus without the mediation of Jesus in flesh and blood.
Jesus was supposed to be captured in the olive garden on the other side of the Kidron Valley by the temple guards led by Judas. Judas had left The Last Supper and probably directly went to the house of the High Priest, located just next door. However, the High Priest seems to have been able to send the temple guards to the meeting place of the Essenes to arrest Jesus. Because the Jerusalem Church was scheduled to be established there, just one and a half months later. The representatives of the Gentile believers around the Mediterranean coast were also prepared to attend to the launch ceremony.
The dialectic of the Gospel of John
The writer of the Gospel of John seems to describe the concept of 'the baptism of the Holy Spirit,' created by Jesus, based on the dialectic process consisting of Thesis, Anti-thesis and Synthesis through out of the Gospel.
【Thesis】 A man can possess eternal life through accepting testimony of the Son of man and being baptized by him. (John 5:24)
【Anti-thesis】 But the one who comes from the earth cannot accept the testimony by one from heaven. (John 3:32)
How then can a man possess eternal life?
【Synthesis】 If you want to be baptized with the Holy Spirit, you can just go back to the word which was with God in the beginning (John 1:1) and certify that God is truthful. (John 3:33)
Only to be entrusted from Buddha to Buddha
When the tidal wave of church movement occurred among the gentile believers who used Greek as intermediate language in the Mediterranean coast, Mahayana Buddhism was flourishing in North India. In Chapter 2 Expedient Means of the Lotus Sutra, one of the main scriptures of Mahayana Buddhism, Buddha preaches exactly the same concept of "Baptism of the Holy Spirit" described in the Gospel of John to Sariputra, one of the ten great his disciples, as follows;
Shariputra, the truth existed as universality within individual events and things in this world, in other words, the real image, can only be understood and shared among Buddhas but not among ordinary men. Thus I have taught with expedient means to delight the hearts of the assembly. It is useless to explain to the ordinary. However, now I, joyful and fearless, in the midst of the bodhisattvas, honestly discarding expedient means, will preach only the unsurpassed Way. Even though, persons of dull capacity and small wisdom, who are attached to appearances, proud and overbearing, are incapable of believing in this Law. When the bodhisattvas hear this Law, they will be released from all entanglements of doubt. The twelve hundred Arhats, they too will all attain Buddhahood.
Bodhidharma, too, describes the same reason in his book, 'the Treatise on the Two Entrances and Four Practices,' saying; "There are many ways of entering into enlightenment, but all of them may effectively be subsumed under two categories: the 'entrance of principle (理入)' and the 'entrance of practice (行入).' The entrance of principle is to become enlightened to the Truth on the basis of the teaching. The same True Nature is possessed of all sentient beings, both ordinary and enlightened. However, this True Nature is covered up by false sense impressions. If one discards the false and resides frozen in 'wall contemplation,' in which self and other, ordinary person and sage, are one and the same, he will be thus mysteriously identified with the True Principle and attain serene and inactive. This is called the entrance of principle.
Kodo Sawaki, who was a Japanese Soto Zen teacher being active in the Showa era throughout the pre-inter-post-war (WW2) period, also is said to have taught as follows: Zen can change the transmigration, the endless circle of birth and death, into Buddhahood, It is the way for a single leap's entry to Buddhahood. Zen is not Dharma (law and order) of the three realms of existence (past, present and future existences = this world) but of Buddhahood. The Buddha Dharma is only entrusted from Buddha to Buddha, but not to ordinary man. Because it was realized by Shakyamuni all by Himself, He said that each Buddha on His own, together with all Buddhas, has been directly able to fully realize It. Therefore when Buddha and Buddha sit straight and interact each other, then it is realized.
While,
Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, in his Christmas message of 2013 said; "Jesus was a Palestinian messenger of hope and a role model for Palestinians. As we Palestinians strive for our freedom two millennia later, we do our best to follow his example. We work with hope, seeking justice, in order to achieve a lasting peace." He meant that every Palestinian, regardless of his religion, Muslim, Jew or Christian, was willing to strive for their freedom to do his best to follow Jesus' example and to work with hope, seeking justice, in order to achieve a lasting peace.<To be continued>

Lotus Sutra Chapter 2: Expedient Means
But stop, Shariputra, I will say no more. Why? Because what the Buddha has achieved is the rarest and most difficult-to-understand Law. The true entity of all phenomena can only be understood and shared between Buddhas. --< omit >-- Shariputra, you should understand that persons of dull capacity and small wisdom, who are attached to appearances, proud and overbearing, are incapable of believing in this Law. Now I, joyful and fearless, in the midst of the bodhisattvas, honestly discarding expedient means, will preach only the unsurpassed Way. When the bodhisattvas hear this Law, they will be released from all entanglements of doubt. The twelve hundred Arhats, they too will all attain Buddhahood.
The treatise on the Two Entrances and Four Practices
There are many ways of entering into enlightenment, but all of them may effectively be subsumed under two categories: the 'entrance of principle (理入)' and the 'entrance of practice (行入).'
The entrance of principle is to become enlightened to the Truth on the basis of the teaching. One must have a profound faith in the fact that one and the same True Nature is possessed of all sentient beings, both ordinary and enlightened, and that this True Nature is only covered up and made imperceptible by false sense impressions. If one discards the false and takes refuge in the True, one resides frozen in "wall contemplation," in which self and other, ordinary person and sage, are one and the same; one resides fixedly without wavering, never again to be swayed by written teachings. To be thus mysteriously identified with the True Principle, to be without discrimination, serene and inactive: This is called the entrance of principle.
