【Review】Now while he was in Jerusalem at the Passover Feast, many people saw the miraculous signs he was doing and believed in his name. (John 2:23)

These people did not believe in his flesh but in his name, the spirit of truth. One, who believes in his name, can directly ask God in his name and will receive whatever he asks and his joy will be complete. (John 16:23-26) All men have had the Holy Spirit since the creation of the world.(John 15:27) Jesus knew it without man's testimony. Thus he did not need to entrust his Holy Spirit to men. (John 2:24-25)

Gospel of Philip, one of Gnostic scriptures, says, "Truth did not come into the world naked, but it came in the types (typos) and the images (eikon). It will not receive it in any other fashion." (Gospel of Philip 67) It means that a person is able to recognize the truth only through the types and the images, in other words, "the name of God" or "original face" in a Chan Buddhism's term.

There was a famous Chan priest called Fayan Qingliang Wenyi (885–958), who founded the Fayan school, one of the Five Houses of Chan Buddhism, during the later period of the Tang Dynasty and the five dynasties and ten kingdoms period (907-960) in China,

One day, a learned priest named Huichao came to him and bluntly asked, "Huichao asks the Teacher, what is Buddha?" However Fayan just said, "You are Huichao."

Xuedou Chongxian (980-1052), a famous Chan priest during the Northern Song Dynasty of China, commented on this dialog, saying, "The thousand sages have not transmitted the single word before sound."

Buddha attained the state of Enlightenment and saw in this way: "Holy am I alone throughout heaven and earth. Grass, trees and the domains of all living things, all attain buddhahood." This state of Enlightenment of Buddha or the Holy Spirit could not be described in words and letters. Thus the thousand sages in the past have not ever transmitted it and no one has ever been baptized with the Holy Spirit

However all men have had the Holy Spirit since the creation of the world.(John 15:27) If you want to know what Buddha is, you can just learn to withdraw, turning the light inwards, illuminating the Self and listen to the word before sound by yourself.

According to the dialectic of the Gospel of John, "A man can possess eternal life through accepting testimony of the Son of man and being baptized by him." (John 5:24)【thesis】But "The one who comes from the earth cannot accept the testimony by one from heaven."(John 3:32)【anti-thesis】 How then can a man possess eternal life? "If you want to be baptized with the Holy Spirit, you can just go back to the word which was with God in the beginning (John 1:1) and certify that God is truthful. (John 3:33)"【synthesis】

When he said, "You are Huichao," Fayan thrusted vivid Self in Huichao in front of his eyes.

According to the dialectic of the Gospel of John,

How then can a man possess eternal life?

A monk (named Hui Chao) asked Fa Yen,t "Hui Chao asks the Teacher, what is Buddha?"

Fa Yen said, "You are Hui Chao."
