当做云岩法师忌辰的法事时，一位学僧问曹洞宗始祖洞山良价禅师，“和尚从先师云岩受到怎么样的指示?”　良价回答说，“虽然我师事他，不过没有受到特别指示。我不是因为尊重先师的道德或佛法，而是因为他没有为我指示，所以为了他做法事。”
根据所谓的《伪克莱门汀文学》，就是，由多位作者以教皇克莱门汀一世的名义下写的一系列文章，施洗约翰有三十个铮铮佼佼的高弟。尤其第一位，最受到约翰尊敬的是西门。

“圣灵的施洗”是什么概念?

根据约翰福音的辩证法，
【正题】“一个人可以通过接受人子的见证而被施洗以圣灵从而获得永恒的生命。”(约翰5:24)
【反题】不过，“地上的人，不会接受从天上来的人的见证。”(约翰 3:32)
那么，一个人怎么能获得永恒的生命呢?
【合题】“如果你要接受以圣灵受洗，就回到太初与神同在的话语中(约翰1:1)，从而见证神是真实的(约翰3:33)，那就够了。”
法眼禅师通过回答，“你就是慧超”而把在慧超里面活生生的面目摆在他的眼前。
