【Mumbai】With the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) walking out of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) over Farm Bills, the Shiv Sena on September 28 wondered if the BJP-led alliance really exists and asked who are in the coalition now.
An editorial in Sena mouthpiece 'Saamana' said it was surprising that NDA's "last pillar" Shiromani Akali Dal was not stopped from severing ties with the alliance. The editorial said, "When the Badal(Parkash Singh Badal:the patron of SAD)s left, no effort was made to stop them. Earlier, the Shiv Sena also left NDA. With these two parties out, what is left of the NDA? Those who are still there, do they have anything to do with Hindutva?" "Punjab and Maharashtra represent manliness and Akali Dal and Shiv Sena are the faces of that manliness," it said. "Now some have said 'ram-ram' (adieu) to this venture and so there is no Ram left in NDA, which has lost two lions (Akali Dal and Sena)," the editorial said.
The Akali Dal quit the NDA on September 26 over the issue of Farm Bills passed in Parliament. It is the third major party to walk out of the NDA in the recent period after the Shiv Sena and the Telugu Desam Party. The Shiv Sena quit the NDA last year following differences with the BJP over sharing the chief ministerial post in Maharashtra on a rotational basis.

The Shiv Sena said its government with the Nationalist Congress Party and the Indian National Congress in Maharashtra is doing a good job and added it will complete its five-year term.
○NDA only in name...no meeting called by PM all these years: SAD chief
【Chandigarh】A DAY after snapping ties with the BJP, Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) president Sukhbir Singh Badal on September 27 said the Narendra Modi-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) had lost credibility and was an alliance "just in name".
Talking to The Indian Express, Badal said, "For the last 7, 8, 10 years or so, NDA is just in name. There is nothing in the NDA. No discussion, no planning, no meetings. I don't remember a day in last 10 years when the Prime Minister called NDA meeting for lunch to discuss what they have in mind. My father is a founder member of the NDA… It's sad that we created the NDA but the NDA is not there today."
On reports that the state government is considering a move to declare the entire state as principal market yard, Sukhbir said, "It would be good if they declare the entire state as principal market yard as we proposed. We are for farmers. Our interest is not to play games. If they (the Congress government in the state) do not do what we feel is right, we will do it when we come to power."
According to Punjab Agriculture Produce Market Committee (APMC) Act, there are three types of yards under the Punjab Mandi Board (PMB) — Principal Market Yard, Sub Yard and Purchase centres.
Experts said declaring the entire state as Principal Market Yard would mean the purchaser has to pay the same taxes outside the PMB yards even in a private trade area.
