【Washington】"He (Trump) said I love the people of India and I love the people of China and I want to do everything possible to keep the peace for the people," White House Press Secretary Kayleigh McEnany told reporters at a news conference here on July 16.
She was responding to a question on Trump's message to India, which recently had a standoff with China in eastern Ladakh along the Line of Actual Control.
Welcoming the White House statement, Al Mason, co-chair of the Trump Victory Indian American Finance Committee, said that unlike his predecessor, President Trump has come out openly in support of India. "US stands with India – and that also, to over one billion Indians in India at the Namaste Trump rally held in India? and that too? near India's neighbour China," Mason said in a statement.
○India bats for inking limited trade deal with US during trade meet
【New Delhi】India has pushed for signing a limited trade deal with the US along with the possibility of a free trade agreement (FTA).
A teleconversation between Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal and his US counterpart Wilbur Ross on July 16 saw both sides noting the progress made so far in talks.
"There was a desire expressed to conclude this initial limited trade package and recognising the complementarities of the India-US bilateral trade, (the two sides) discussed the possibility of an FTA," said a statement by the Commerce Department. However, officials say talks on the proposed trade deal with the US will pick up only after the American presidential elections conclude in November.
