◆Boeing closed more defence deals with India than whole of US in last 50 years
【New Delhi】Aircraft manufacturing company Boeing on the 17th of October admitted that it has concluded more defence deals with India than the whole of the US defence industry combined in the last fifty years.
In a webcast. which was live streamed throughout the country, Jim McNerney McNerney, chairman of The Boeing Company, said, "The probable reason of our success is that we anticipated these deals will come and set up a team here rather than bringing the aircraft here first and the team later."
The company said it plans to assemble either its Chinook heavy-lift helicopters or Apache attack choppers in India even as it gears to offer the possibility of manufacturing a fighter jet aircraft in the country.

【New Delhi】The Indian Navy is looking to squeeze some more life out of its two decade old kilo class submarines, signing up a contract with Russia to extend the service life of the boats to 35 years.
Struggling with a depleted underwater fleet, the Navy has finalized a contract with Russian shipbuilder Zvezdochka and will be sending the first submarine for the refit in June next year. The extensive refit, the value for which is pegged at Rs 5,000 crore for a total of four submarines, will not only extend the life of the boats but will also upgrade their combat potential.
○Test fire: India's indigenous cruise missile Nirbhay fails midway
【Bhubaneswar】India's indigenous surface-to-surface cruise missile Nirbhay nose-dived midway after it test fired in Odisha on the 16th of October.
According to Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) sources, the missile was launched from the Chandipur Integrated Test Range (ITR) in Balasore district at 11.38 a.m. Although the take off was successful amid repeated disruptions of countdown, the missile missed the target after 11 minutes after it was test fired, said the sources.
