【New Delhi】The first meeting of Governing Council of National Institute for Transforming India (NITI) Aayog, a policy think-tank of Union Government of India that replaces Planning Commission of India and aims to involve the states in economic policy-making in India, was held in New Delhi on the 8th of February. At the meeting, Prime Minister Narendra Modi sought the views of Chief Ministers and Lt. Governors on Budget 2015-16, flagship schemes and infrastructure projects.
Prior to this, economists invited to the meeting of the NITI Aayog on the 6th of February drew Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s attention to the need for a renewed focus on India’s high-cost, low-productivity farm sector, in addition to the manufacturing sector that is being given a push through the “Make in India” campaign.
According to Economist Saumitra Chaudhuri who resigned from the Planning Commission last year, the Aayog must be made a government body which is responsible for the implementation of its plans and the body must focus on implementation.

【New Delhi】Making a strong pitch for ‘Co-operative Federalism,’ Prime Minister Narendra Modi has assured States that the Centre will move away from ‘one size fits all’ schemes.
Centre and States have also decided to form three groups to address issues such as restructuring centrally sponsored schemes, skill development and making Swatchh Bharat Abhiyaan (Clean India Mission) as a permanent programme.

【New Delhi】Asking Chief Ministers to make 'Clean India' a continuous exercise across the country, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the 8th of February said states should use upcoming vacations to build and upgrade toilets in schools. Modi also announced setting up of a sub-group of chief ministers on 'Clean India' programme.
