【Bangalore】The $16-billion US apparel brand Gap on the 22nd August entered into a partnership with Arvind Lifestyle Brands, a subsidiary of Arvind Ltd, to open 40 stores in India starting early next year.
The first two outlets of the San Francisco-based firm under the franchise model will open in Mumbai and Delhi. “India is an emerging, vibrant market and an important next step in our global expansion strategy,” said Steve Sunnucks, global president of Gap. “Gap is loved around the world for our American casual style and enduring value and quality and we are so pleased to bring our brand and products to life for customers in India.”
“Apparel is a very large category with huge growth potential. We are looking at luxury, premium, speciality retail and e-commerce for our next phase of growth,” said Sanjay Lalbhai, Chairman, Arvind Ltd, adding e-commerce will be a category by itself.

【New Delhi】Bharti Retail has been using Walmart's IT platform though the two ended their franchise agreement in retail last October.
Walmart has been providing technological support and supplying merchandise to the Easyday chain since its inception in 2008. "We believe that Accenture's systems integration capabilities and deep retail industry knowledge, combined with its unrivalled understanding and experience in implementing SAP solutions, will help us simplify and strengthen the efficiency of our business operations and support our efforts to rapidly scale up business," Bharti Retail's chief executive, Raj Jain, told ET in an e-mailed reply. Bharti Retail operates more than 200 Easyday stores in the country.
