【New Delhi】Aiming to spruce up growth, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the 26th July met secretaries of nine infrastructure ministries to set targets for 2014-15 and identify key projects in sectors like road, power and railways.
Hereafter secretaries of the ministries concerned will brief PM once a month on these key projects. This decision was taken after Sindhushree Khullar, secretary, Planning Commission, on that day presented to the prime minister India's infrastructure targets and achievements.
Infrastructure sector is a focus area for the Modi-led government. The Centre is keen to speed up infrastructure development and investment to boost economic growth which remained at sub-5% level during the previous two fiscals.
Secretaries and senior officials from nine infrastructure ministries – power, road transport, shipping, civil aviation, coal, petroleum, railways, telecom and renewable energy – were present in the meeting. Besides, top officials from rural development ministry and environment and forests ministry also attended the meeting.
○Narendra Modi government's small reforms with big impact
【New Delhi】Where are Modi Sarkar's big-bang reforms, some are asking. But most are missing a clutch of small policy changes that will greatly improve business climate and citizens' lives. A picture on small reforms:
For Business:
1. Red to Green Tape; Promoters of big projects can seek online green clearances. Cuts out discretion. Big change from UPA's Jayanthi tax.
2. Sailing Through; Ships, critical to commerce, to get lifetime licences from local marine authority. No more annual trips to Delhi.
3. Freer Factories; Industrial licences valid now for 3 years, plus simple process for 2-year renewal. Big change from 2-year permits and red-tape maze.
4. Better for Boiler; GoI tells states to stop notorious factory visits by boiler inspectors and go for self or third-party certification on boiler safety.
5. Inspecting Inspectors; Inspector raj to end. Compliance checks on business for labour laws only on basis of solid information, not babus' whims.
For Citizens
1. Goodbye Notaries; Citizens can self-attest IDs, address proofs & other documents. No need for long queues at dingy notary public offices. States advised to follow the same rule.
2. Rooting for Retired; PF contributions go up big because salary cut-off raised from Rs 6,500 to Rs 15,000. Plus NPS contribution made tax-free.
3. Fuelling Change; UPA made premium petrol, diesel much pricier than ordinary fuel. Price difference now down to just Rs 2/L. Good for city air.
4. Truly Tatkal; Those last-minute rail bookings now far easier. Railways online system can now handle 7,200 bookings per minute, a 300% jump in speed.
5. Smarter Help; PM Relief Fund disbursals no longer based on lottery. Seriously ill poor and children to get top priority. Plus, SMS from PM when your request is granted.
○PM launches MyGov portal to enable Govt-citizen discussions
【New Delhi】Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the 26th July launched MyGov (mygov.nic.in), a website that aims to help citizens contribute in governance by giving their opinions and views on issues like ‘Clean Ganga’ or skill development.
The PM, who completed 60 days in office on the day, launched the initiative which he said would empower citizens to contribute towards "surajya" or good governance. "Some of the best ideas and suggestions will straightaway reach the prime minister," the portal promised. Stressing that the success of democracy is impossible without participation of the people.
