【New Delhi】Ved Pratap Vaidik, a freelance journalist and a close aide of yoga guru Baba Ramdev, meeting with the 26/11 Mumbai terror attack mastermind Hafiz Saeed, chief of Jamaat-ud-Dawa (JuD), in Pakistan earlier this month caused furore inside Parliament, both Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha, as well as on social media on Monday (14-07-14).
The Congress disrupted Parliament's proceedings demanding the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led government must explain whether Vaidik was the government’s emissary to “India’s most wanted terrorist”.
On Tuesday (15-07-14), the turmoil stalled Parliament for the second consecutive day, with Government stating it has nothing to do with it and terming it as "diplomatic misadventure of a private individual".
Finance Minister Arun Jaitley and External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj said that the government has nothing to do with either the visit or the meeting between Ved Pratap Vaidik and Saeed in Rajya Sabha and Lok Sabha respectively. "It is a diplomatic misadventure of a private individual," they said.
○Did Indian mission facilitate Vaidik-Saeed meet, asks Rahul
【New Delhi】Describing journalist Ved Pratap Vaidik as an "RSS man", Rahul Gandhi today questioned whether the Indian High Commission in Islamabad had facilitated the meeting between him and Mumbai attack mastermind Hafiz Saeed.
"If they helped this gentleman in any way. That's what we are curious about," the Congress Vice President told reporters here.
A row has erupted over the meeting of Vaidik, considered close to yoga guru Ramdev, with Saeed with the journalist rejecting suggestions made by Congress that he might have acted as government's envoy.
○Vaidik has no relation with RSS: Ram Madhav
【New Delhi】RSS leader Ram Madhav, who recently joined BJP, today asserted that journalist Ved Pratap Vaidik has no relation with RSS, saying a person roaming around with Congress leaders is not from the Sangh fountainhead.
His comments come after Congress party, includings its Vice President Rahul Gandhi, described Vaidik as an "RSS man" and questioned whether the Indian High Commission in Islamabad had facilitated the meeting between him and Mumbai attack mastermind Hafiz Saeed.
○Vaidik wanted to 'analyse' Saeed's mind, denies political link
【New Delhi】Journalist Ved Pratap Vaidik Monday defended himself by saying he only wanted to analyse the Pakistani terror group leader's mind to "perceive his motivation about India".
Asked what was his objective in meeting the Jamaat-ud-Dawa chief who is wanted in India for the Mumbai attack, Vaidik told CNN-IBN: "The objective was very simple. I am a journalist and I really wanted to know him. I wanted to know what kind of a man he is and why he committed heinous crimes against India. I wanted to analyse his mind."
