【Hyderabad】Indian IT and IT-enabled services industry is setting its eyes on the Japanese market, the second biggest IT market after the US.
Heavily depended on the US and European markets for long, the National Association of Software and Services Companies (Nasscom) is now looking at the Japanese market that holds a lot of promise for the Indian industry.
“It is a very big IT market, second only to the US. But it comprises only two per cent of the total revenues of our total IT revenues. We have decided to focus on this market. We are going to build bridges to tap the opportunity there,” R Chandrashekhar, President of Nasscom, told Business Line.
In order to crack the new market in the Far East, the Nasscom will lead a high-level business delegation to Tokyo and other top cities in Japan to hold one-one-meetings with top firms there to explore opportunities. “The Prime Minister is going there this month. And it will be followed by our delegation. We think it is the right time for both sides to explore markets in the two countries,” he said.
○Rural India is faceless
【New Delhi】If Facebook has to make itself relevant to a wider set of consumers, especially in countries like India, it will have to use technology to make applications that are relevant to larger masses of people.
As of now, Facebook is essentially an urban phenomenon where internet usage is growing and people are always looking for platforms to project their cool quotient.
One of the first things that Facebook’s COO Sheryl Sandberg did after arriving in India last week, was to visit Kamoda village in Rajasthan. It was part of Sandberg’s personal commitment to a non-profit organisation working in the area of education, sanitation and healthcare.
To her credit, Sandberg acknowledged the point that Facebook has to move into areas like education and e-governance. This needs to be followed up with some serious investments here. With a 100 million user base here, India is now the second largest country for Facebook after the US. Growth in internet penetration will no doubt add to India’s GDP but it will also add to Facebook’s GDP. Hopefully, on her next visit to India, Sandberg will be able to tell us stories of how the women of Kamoda are increasing their productivity by using internet services in addition to what they make from selling goat’s milk.
