【Srinagar】With parts of the summer capital under curfew, separatist leaders under house arrest, a separatists-sponsored shutdown as usual greeting the Prime Minister in valley and a massive security bandobust in place, normal life in Kashmir was disrupted on Friday as Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived here on his first visit to Jammu and Kashmir.
The visit came in the wake of his government’s commitment to resettle Kashmiri Hindus to their “cultural homeland” and its intent to repeal Article 370 of the Constitution that accords J&K special status.
Reports said all shops, business establishments; banks, educational institutions and government offices across Kashmir remained closed while roads wore a deserted look as no transport plied. The strike call was given by both the factions of Hurriyat Conference and Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front to protest against PM’s visit to J&K.
○Modi excludes Omar from J&K security review meeting
【Srinagar】In a snub to J&K Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, Prime Minister Narendra Modi did not invite him for the security review meeting he conducted on Friday at Army’s 15-Corps headquarters here.
Omar, who had several bitter exchanges with the Prime Minister during the Lok Sabha elections, did not hold one on one meeting with the prime minister.
Since 1996, prime ministers visiting the state always had the chief ministers as part of their official programmes.
