【New Delhi】In a move that will give a fillip to some of the important sectors of the economy, such as automobiles, capital goods and consumer durables, Finance Minister Arun Jaitley on Wednesday extended the excise sops in the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government's interim budget for another six months.
The incentives - a reduction of two percentage-points in excise duty on capital goods and consumer durables and between three and six percentage points on cars, SUVs and two-wheelers - were announced in the interim budget in February and were to expire by the end of this month. Now, these will be applicable till December 31. Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) in its pre-budget Memorandum for 2014-15 has asked for extension of the stimulus package up to March 31, 2015.
○In Modi they trust: Govt’s Rs 80,000-cr divestment plan to find more buyers
【Mumbai】The Centre's ambitious plan of raising Rs 80,000 crore by way of disinvestment this fiscal is expected to find more buyers than in the previous two to three financial years.
The shift can be credited to the change in the country's political as well as economic situation, and its effect on equity markets. Investment bankers feel the market has appetite for government paper. Some of the companies were established long ago and are well renowned among domestic as well as foreign investors. Besides, there is a high degree of investor optimism that the government to take tough policy measures and kick-start the economic reforms agenda.
