【New Delhi】The drug making sector expects the new government to take a tough stand on issues with the US. Industry groups and even individual companies have started gearing up with presentations, to be taken up with ministers and the Prime Minister's Office as soon as a new government headed by Narendra Modi assumes charge.
The sector, largely driven by exports, clocks significant revenue from supplies to the US, the world's largest drug market. But there are some contentious issues between the two, mainly surrounding and impacting the drug manufacturing sector.
○Jefferies sees new govt speeding up decisions in oil sector
【MUMBAI】International brokerage Jefferies today expressed hope that incoming government will speed up decision-making in oil sector, especially on the production and exploration front.
"We expect election impact to be positive for the oil & gas sector as reforms that are underway, such as diesel subsidy elimination and gas price hike, are likely to continue and decision-making, particularly in E&P, is likely to be expedited," Jefferies said in a note today.
○Gas-based plants need fuel succour from new govt
【New Delhi】Addressing the issue of fuel supply to the country’s stranded gas-based power stations will be one of the key priorities of the Narendra Modi government.
A group of officials in the power ministry has prepared a blueprint under which a new peaking power policy will be implemented for gas-based stations where the resource will be re-allocated keeping in mind the need for generation of electricity during peak hours. Government sources said the proposal would be put before the new power minister, so that Cabinet approval could come at the earliest.
