◆Indian Railways to bring back its forgotten flavours
【NEW DELHI】Until now, the Indian Railways has been known for its bland food, shabby coaches and erratic schedule - in that order. But the 160-year-old institution is set for an image makeover.
It plans to re-create its glorious past by launching chic urban restaurants that will dish up mouthwatering delicacies from the days of the Raj such as, railway mutton curry, Madras Club qorma, mulligatawny soup, and more.
Apart from nostalgic gourmet food, the restaurants will also deliver an authentic railway dining experience including vintage memorabilia, restored steam engines and the works, said senior officials of IRCTC, the subsidiary of the Indian Railways that handles its catering business. "We are in the process of finalizing a few things," R N Kalita, director of catering services at IRCTC, told TOI.
○'We're looking for a local partner'
【NEW DELHI】Zurich-based business jet operator VistaJet has been operating international flights to and from India for more than year now. It has a fleet size of 40. The foreign non-scheduled operator has already approached the government to launch domestic operations.
According to VistaJet's chief operating officer Ian Moore, the initial talks with government representatives have been favourable. The company is looking for a local partner.
